Since I have been learning about wikis and blogs I have seen them all over the Internet. I have found them useful in some research that I recently did for a paper. I see how the can be a great tool for the classroom. I am still looking for ways that they can be used in my kindergarten classroom. Does anyone have an suggestions?

  1. I think that would be hard to do in a kindergarten classroom. I know my second graders can barely type. Perhaps you type the information as they dictate it to you. If using it as an outside resource such as homework, you could have parents type in the information for their kids. That's putting the responsibility on the parents, but it would be interesting to see how it went.

  2. I see your dilemma about using blogs with young children. I read a comment made by one of our fellow ITS member. Her suggestion about having parents become involved is excellent. This could be a great way to get/keep parent involvement. I guess the only aspect I worry about is how comfortable parents are using a blog. Or could you use the blog as a class activity and work individually with each student (or have a parent volunteer work with each student) and enter the comments of the student. This would probably not be a daily activity but think of how interesting it would be for parents to read the comments made by the entire class.

  3. I wonder if you could make a wiki of things that begin with the letter "C" for example and leave it open during the day for your students to add things to. Or possibly if you are studying shapes, maybe have them add things to the wiki that are in the shape of a circle or triangle, etc. Just a thought....:)

  4. I like Sherry's ideas. That would be a good way to get students involved in learning. This might be something that they could actually do. Would you assign this as an in class project or outside of class project?

  5. I really like Sherry's idea of the Wiki for letters. You could have a parent volunteer or a practicum student to do the typing. The kids could dictate to them what they want to add. That would be an easy solution to the little ones trying to type and spell.
